New Long Cheng
About This Spot
Tucked into a corner of Syracuse’s South Salina Street, New Long Cheng offers a simple yet sincere slice of Chinese cuisine that feels grounded in familiarity and quiet comfort. Arriving here, you’re met with a hum of steady activity—a small, compact space where the rhythm is brisk but unhurried, shaped by locals stopping in for their favorite meals to-go or the occasional chance to linger a little, pre-pandemic. The cozy setting reflects a place where the food takes center stage, inviting you to slow down and savor each bite rather than fussing over polish or presentation.
The atmosphere carries a humble authenticity—slightly worn but trustworthy, the kind of spot where the door swings open and you’re welcomed by the savory warmth of familiar aromas and the steady pace of well-practiced hands preparing dishes with care. Though the dining area has shifted over time, replaced by a takeout window and the quiet presence of an unused banquet hall, the essence of community keeps the space alive. Here, the bustle is not frantic but purposeful, punctuated by smiles exchanged between staff and regulars who recognize each other’s favorite orders.
Eating at New Long Cheng is a quietly joyful experience, one defined by the comfort of generous portions and flavors that feel like a gentle nod to home. Whether it’s the satisfying balance of tender beef mingled with crisp, snap-fresh broccoli or the familiar, gently spiced vegetable chow mein, each dish carries a grounded sense of care. The combination platters, with their customizable sides and variety of egg rolls, unfold like a small, trusted ritual—simple choices made hearty and welcoming. It’s food that doesn’t seek to surprise, but rather to soothe and satisfy, evoking a genuine sense of return and ease.
In many ways, New Long Cheng stands as a quiet anchor for those craving not just a meal, but a reminder of home—whether that’s the familiarity of a city far away or the comforting consistency of a local favorite. The modest setting and unpretentious service weave together with the bold, honest flavors on the menu, creating a place where the human moments between kitchen and counter are what truly linger—in the shared spaces between meals, memories, and moments of everyday life.

Love eating here, really great tasting food, very quick service. You don't have to wait to long for your food, they are really fast there. The Crab Rangoon is really good, they make them the best here. Love their shrimp lomen too. Very tasty food.

Tight Space there were 12 people in basically a phone booth waiting to order or to pick up food. This is because they closed their dining room after the Pandemic. They have a whole Banquet Hall I've never saw in Use it's been closed for years and now there's a window you order from. GREAT FOOD though.
